VISUAL GENERAL EFFECT
Katie Buelow Hometown: Spring Hill, Florida
Mrs. Buelow is currently the Educational and Caption Facilitator of the Visual Caption
of Central States Judges Association (CSJA) and was inducted into the Judges Hall of
Fame in 2008, an honor reserved for the select few of CSJA who have given the most
to the organization, to adjudication, and to the marching activity. Mrs. Buelow is also
an active member of the Central States Judges Association, Michigan Color Guard
Circuit (MCGC), Florida Marching Band Coalition, WGI Wind Division and a WGI E-
Adjudicator and most recently registered with the Judges Academy.
Her role as Educational and Caption Facilitator includes creation of the educational
training program, quality control, and training of current members and prospective
judges to the organization.
Past adjudication affiliations include: a twenty-five-year member of Winter Guard
International (WGI) and held a five-year Adjudicator Advisory Member for WGI; Drum
Corps Midwest, Drum Corp Associates, North Star Judges Guild, Bands of America
(BOA), and Florida Federation of Judges.
Mrs. Buelow is a graduate of the University of Minnesota in Business and has been a
sales manager for Fortune 500 companies. She has more than thirty (30) years’
experience in teaching in the marching activity, including marching band, drum corps,
color guard, drill teams and dance line. She is also the co-owner of Visual Performance
Concepts, a drill writing and instructional services company.
Mrs. Buelow has been a member of Central States Judges Association since 1976 and
has served as Caption Facilitator twice – most currently since 2002. She has
adjudicated local, state and finals competitions throughout the United States and
internationally.
GUARD
Greg Marquis Hometown: Chicago, Illinois
Greg Marquis is a Ballroom and Latin Dancesport instructor and competitor. He has
been awarded Top Teacher at 32 NDCA danceport competitions, including the San
Diego Dancesport Competition, Indiana Challenge, Harvest Moon Ball, Iowa
Dancesport Classic, Crystal Ball and the Windy City Open. Greg runs the Dance
Workshop and teaches at Diamond Dancesport, where he was a former owner. He is
the organizer of the Windy City Dancesport Showcase and the Quad Cities Spectacular.
Greg was selected as the American representative to judge Dancesport for the
International Gay Games in 2006.
Greg is a graduate of Western Illinois University, where he served as the MENC
student president. He graduated with a BA in Music Education and instructed the
University Marching Band and Winter Guard for four years. Greg was selected to be a
student conductor for the University Concert Band. When he was the Band Director at
