Kings Bands Staff
Mr. McDonough is a graduate of University of Cincinnati CCM and has worked in the Kings Local School District for 8 years. He is currently the High School Band Director and the Jr. High Assistant Band Director at Kings and specifically works with student musicians in Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Marching Band.
Mr. McDonough believes that, “Every person interacts with music on a daily basis. My goal is to help students find more meaning with those interactions.” When asked why he loves working with Kings students he said, “I love their wonderful spirit!”

Assistant Band Director
Mr. Maegly is a graduate of Northern Kentucky University and has worked in the Kings Local School District for 25 years. He is currently the Assistant Band Director at Kings and works with student musicians in all bands, grades 6 through 12.
Mr. Maegly believes that, “Music classes help to level the field for all students. Successes can be found there that are not seen in other areas. Music can be a shelter for some students. Music offers an opportunity for lifetime involvement.” When asked why he loves working with Kings students he said, “I am fortunate that I can see the development of our band students from day one in sixth grade all the way to the end of their senior year.”
Jazz Director and Jr. High Band Director
Joe Polen is a graduate of The Ohio State University/VanderCook College of Music and has worked in the Kings district for 26 years. He is the Kings Junior High School Band Director and an Assistant High School Band Director. Mr. Polen is also the director of both the Kings Jr. High Jazz Band and the Kings High School Jazz Band.
Mr. Polen wants his students to be lifelong consumers of music and he hopes that they will resonate with music for the rest of their lives. When asked why he loves working with Kings students he said it is because teachers can, “make a difference in just one of your students and the ripple effect will exponentially touch thousands.”

Guard Director and Music Teacher
Mrs. Maegly is a graduate of Miami University and has worked in the Kings Local School District for 24 years. She is currently the music teacher at JF Burns Elementary school, and she is the director for the Color Guard and the Winter Guard.
One of her favorite quotes also reveals why she believes music education is important: “Even the richest child is poor without music.” When asked why she loves working with Kings students she said, “I love working with all the age levels. I can see their development as they get older. I start them in Kindergarten and then if they choose the guard program or band program I can watch them develop and grow until they graduate.”
Pep Band Director and Instrumental Music Teacher
Jennifer Reeder is an alumni of Kings High School and she gradated from Bowling Green State University and Kent State University. She has taught beginning band and general music in Kings for 20 years. In addition to working with the 6th grade band, she also assists with marching band and is the Kings High School Pep Band Director.
She believes that music education is important because “it teaches the whole child and we use different parts of our brains simultaneously when we make music! Music is a lifelong love for all of us and I love to open students’ eyes to all of the different music that is out there.” Here’s what she loves about teaching in the Kings district: “I love teaching students at Kings from fifth-grade up to high school level. My students at Columbia Intermediate are enthusiastic and eager to learn and FUN. Our high school band students are all great kids who like to spend time creating music, seeking excellence and being a part of a greater whole group.”
